How To Get A Student Loan Successfully

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Bill_Darken]Bill Darken Five Tips to Getting Reliable Education Financing If you are young person planning on heading off to college, you likely are wondering what steps you can take to better ensure your success of obtaining a student loan. In many cases, a student loan is the only way through which a person will be able to pay for his or her college education. Thus, you naturally understand the importance of being able to access and obtain a student loan. If you are in the process of preparing to go to college, if you are in the process of applying for a student loan, there are some tips and pointers that you should bear in mind as you go about the application process. By keeping these tips in mind, you will be able to better your chances of obtaining the student loan that you need in order to further and advance your education. 1. In considering obtaining student loans, it is important that you pull together basic information about your finances and your financial status. (In addition, depending on the types of specific student loans that you are seeking, the income and financial status of your parents may play a role in decisions relating to student loans. This particularly is true if you are still residing in the home of your parents at the time you begin the search for student loans.) 2. In looking for student loans, you will want to determine exactly what types of student loans may be available to you at any given point in time. To this end, if you have selected an institution of higher learning to which you will be enrolling, contact the financial aid office at the school. The staff of the financial aid office is trained to specifically aid you in determining availabilities as far as different student loans are concerned. 3. As part of seeking student loans, you need to make a thorough assessment of what expenses you will be encountering in regard to attending school over the course of the coming semester and the coming year. You need to determine specifically what your tuition costs will be each semester for the year. Additionally, you need to make an estimate as what you will have to spend on books and other supplies for your classes. (Many people tend to misjudged and under estimate what they will end up spending on books and class supplies for a semester. You need to be as accurate as possible in this regard so that you do not end up under funded.) 4. If you are going to be living in student housing on campus, you need to determine how much dorm fees and charges will be for each of the two upcoming semesters. For the most part, there are situations in which you can include on campus living charges within your overall request for student loans. (Many people use student loans to fund their off campus living expenses as well. In this regard, in order to be in compliance with the rules and regulations of student loans, you need to make certain that you understand what expenses these loans actually will cover.) 5. In looking towards the application for student loans, you need to honestly assess what income you think will be available to you during the coming semester and throughout the coming school year. Many people end up getting too much money through student loan programs. They end up leaving school buried in debt. Therefore, by being realistic about what you actually will need in the way of student loan financing, you will be in a far better financial position as you begin your life after school. (When thinking about what funds will be available to you, you will want to consider any financial contribution that your parents may be making to your education as well. In addition, you may have the possibility of obtaining a scholarship or an educational grant. If you obtain funds from these resources, you will want to reduce the request you make for student loans accordingly in order to keep your finances in a sounder position following graduation.) By following these steps outlined in this article, you will be in the best position to fund your education without busting your budget following graduation. Unusual Daffodil Stories

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

By Doug Green Stories about flowers always interest me and those about daffodils are particularly interesting. Did you know that if you keep chickens, you may not want to bring daffodils into the house. An old saying in Herfordshire U.K. tells us that if you bring daffodils inside when the hens are sitting, no chicks will be born alive. The opposite of this in Devon, says that the number of goslings that will be hatched and reared is the same as the number of daffodil flower stems that are brought into the house in the first bouquet of the year. In Europe, daffodil colonies often indicate an old religious site. Apparently the daffodils were planted by the monastery inhabitants and years after the demise of the buildings, the plants continue to grow. The daffodil family or narcissus is poisonous and were told by knowledgeable bulb historians that mortally wounded Roman soldiers would eat a few bulbs. The bulb would work its narcotic wonder and the soldier would painlessly die. I have never tried to eat one but am told you do not have to worry about your children eating them as they are one of the vilest tasting bulbs around. This vile taste is natures way of protecting them from predators. Now, a lesser-known epithet when applied to soldiery is to be called a daffodil. Apparently this means that they are nice to look at but yellow through and through. This term was apparently used in official British correspondence during the second world war and caused a bit of a diplomatic problem between the British and Australians. The British saying it was the Australian daffodils that lost Singapore and the Australians pointing out the real nature of the problem was British leadership. Whatever the story, enjoy your bright yellow daffodils this spring. By Dr. Leslie Van Romer Yeah, But I Eat in Moderation You have always been told that you can eat anything, anything at all, as long as it is in moderation. The problem is: what is the definition of moderation as it relates to food? Most of us just dont know even though we think we do. Our perception of moderation may be eating meat once a day instead of three times a day; eating pizza three times a week instead of once a day; drinking two cups of coffee instead of six cups; eating a quick burger and fries only twice a week instead of three times a week; or indulging in candy, desserts, pastries, or chips only every other day instead of every day. On the other hand, we tend to eat way less than a moderate amount of fresh fruits and vegetables a day. Do you eat at least 5 to 10 pieces of fruit a day? Do you eat at least one large, green-leafy, vegetable salad a day? In this land of plenty, most of us may honestly think we are eating food in moderation, but in fact we are eating way too much food. Even more significantly, we are eating way too much of the wrong foodsfoods that dont feed us, but deplete usand way too little of the good-for-you foods. If you dont doubt that our moderation barometer is a skewed, just look around for proof. If we truly ate in the right foods in moderation, then our weight would also be moderate. Too much of the wrong foods equals too much weight. The right quantities of the right foods equal the right weight and better health. So if your yeah, but is that you already eat in moderation, make sure moderation means lots of fresh, whole fruits and vegetables a day and very little not-so-good-for-you foods, like meat, dairy products, white sugar and white flour goodies, added oils, processed foods, fast foods, and junk foods and junk drinks, including coffee and pop. How to Eat All You Want and Still Lose Weight

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

By Janice Wee How would you like to eat all you want and still lose weight, or maintain your trim figure? Sounds impossible? Have you seen those skinny young women who eat like horses, with plate after plate of food at the buffet table without putting on any weight? Ok, so some of them may be bulimic. You know, the sort who eat all they want, then go to the toilet to throw up everything they just ate. Not only is that disgusting, it is very unhealthy. That damages your body in the long run. No, I’m talking about the girls who just cannot seem to gain weight. Probably due to a very high metabolic rate. They burn off all the calories they consume, effortlessly. Not every skinny girl is bulimic or aneroxic or even on a stringent diet. Some are just naturally thin. I know. In my early twenties, I was one of them. When you are young, your metabolic rate is high. As you get older, your metabolism would naturally slow down. Also, back in my skinny days, I walked a lot. As a student, I was underweight. Yet I could out eat any guy at a buffet table. That was because I walked a lot. I was on my feet walking around the campus when not at class. I had to climb a hill several times a day as the hostel where I stayed was on the top of the hill. As a young adult, I walked a lot. I’d go shopping for hours after work. Walking at least 3 hours each day, browsing from shop to shop. When I let a more sedentary lifestyle after marriage, I really gained weight. Staying home, watching tv instead of walking for hours in the malls let to serious weight gain. Even though I was eating far less than before. The gist of this is that your weight depends on the amount of calories you burn as well as the calories you consume. Consume more calories than you burn and you end up gaining weight. Burn more calories than you consume and you lose weight. So if you seriously want to eat all you want and still lose weight, you have to make a serious effort to burn those calories you consume. Just ate a big mac? That is worth 485 calories. Playing tennis for an hour burns 450 calories.Scrubbing the floor for an hour burns 440 calories. Try doing that to offset the calories you consumed from that big mac. When I run on a treadmill, uphill with the slope set to the max at 15, and speed at around 6.5 for 35 minutes, I burn about 410 calories. So if you want to lose weight and eat Big Macs, or other high calorie foods, you have to be prepared for some serious exercise. Likewise, the snacks you might eat while watching TV, or in the office all contain serious calories. Take note of what you eat, how many calories they contain and burn those off through exercise. The good news is the plain water, contains no calories, yet you can feel rather full by drinking plenty of water. Try drinking a large glass of water before you eat anything. Feel like snacking? Drink 1 large glass of water first before proceeding with your snack. Drink another large glass of water as you eat your snack. That would reduce the amount of snacks you eventually eat. Drink 1 large glass of water before your meal, and drink another glass of water with your meal. You’ll probably eat far less than normal during the meal even though you eat to your heart’s content. Next, get your body to burn off as many calories as possible. I like The Firm’s Transfirmer system as not only does it burn off the calories in that one intense work out, it boosts your body’s metabolic rate, so you continue to burn calories at an accelerated rate for the rest of the day, even while you sleep. Basically, muscle burns more calories that fat. Muscle looks very much better than fan. If you want a serious workout, check out Billy Blank’s Bootcamp. Billy is a reknown martial art’s champ. His training program delivers. Not for sissies though. So you see, you can eat all you want and still lose weight, provided train your body to burn off all the excess calories. I never said it was going to be easy though. :-) The writer is the new webmaster of aerobic total body fitness. A resource to help you get in shape through aerobic exercise. Know When To Get An Agreement In Writing

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

By Philipp Kostins Although most people believe that it is always necessary to get any agreement in writing, there are cases where a verbal agreement is legal and valid. However, since there are just as many instances where a written agreement is necessary or, at the very least helpful, it is a good idea to know which situations call for which types of agreements. The general rule of thumb for deciding if a contract needs to be in writing is determined by the nature of the contract. For example, any agreement that is related to your business, large personal assets such as your home and contract work that will take over a year to complete should be written down in a contract and made binding. However, an agreement that involves a low amount of financial risk, is between family members or is not necessary as part of your daily business can be verbally contracted. The disadvantage to any verbal agreement, however, is the fact that they can be hard to enforce. For example, if you loan your brother fifty dollars and he verbally agrees to pay you back in three weeks but three weeks come and go without repayment, it could be difficult to get your money back. Without a signed, written agreement, your brother could claim that the said he would repay you in four weeks, or worse, he could claim the money wasn’t a loan but rather a gift. In this type of situation, aside from stopping all communication with your brother, there are really no legal actions you could take. You could attempt to sue your brother, but the lawsuit could end up costing you more than your original fifty dollars, or you could win the lawsuit only to have the judgment dismissed because he cannot afford to pay you back. Another drawback to a verbal agreement is that many times they do not encompass all of the details necessary to a contract. For example, you may make and agree to sell woodcarvings from your home part-time to a friend. Without a written agreement you may end up facing problems down the road. For instance, he may decide that the items are not selling and refuse to pay you for the items you have already made. On the other hand, you may agree verbally on a price and then find out after delivery that your friend expects to pay a lesser amount. In either case, having a written contract that spells out every conceivable option for the agreement will protect both party’s rights and interests. Just as some agreements do not call for a written contract, some agreements must be written down to be legally binding and to fully protect you and you assets from harm. These types of agreements usually involve the sell of real estate or other expensive material possessions, the loaning of substantial amounts of money any agreement that outlines the delivery of services. While individuals can generally write up most contracts it is usually best to hire an attorney to draft any contracts that are related to your business or that concern large money amounts or contracted services. Although you may wish to write the contract up yourself to avoid any legal fees, paying an attorney now could save you hundreds of dollars later. If another party draws up the contract it is best to hire an attorney to look the contract over before you sign it. When searching for a lawyer, it is recommended that you contact one that has experience in business contracts or that specializes in legal business issues. 2005 Lawyer Vista - a website where you can find a lawyer in your city or state, including California contract lawyers and Nevada contract lawyer. Simple Tips For Losing Weight

Friday, October 26th, 2007

By Ron Swerdfiger Weight loss is a tough result to obtain regardless of weight or level of physical fitness. There are many different ways to lose weight, some more unhealthy than others, but the ones that work are most times the most complicated to pull off. Some people may recommend eating less to lose weight, and in some cases eating less is a key component of losing weight, but in most cases, eating is a necessity if one wishes to lower their own weight. Without food and the calories they supply, your body has no energy to burn and in turn will turn your existing muscle into fat. In order to lose weight you must make a commitment, a commitment that must not be broken if you desire results. Do not misconstrue this for the idea that you can never indulge during your diet, but just be sure that you have set reasonable limits for yourself that you are ready to commit to. If you are on a strict diet, a “cheat” meal here and there will go a long way to keeping you happy. To be successful in achieving your goal of weight loss: set multiple, smaller, more easily attainable goals for yourself. These will keep you self-motivated and more likely to obtaining your overall goal of a happier and healthier life. Ending Relationships Gracefully

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By Margaret Paul, Ph.D. In my counseling practice, I often hear the question, How do I end a relationship without hurting someones feelings? Whether its a romantic relationship or a friendship, ending it gracefully is generally a challenge. The problem arises because so many people see it as a reflection of their worth when someone doesnt want to be with them. If I was good enough, this person would want to be with me, so there must be something wrong with me. There is another way to see this. The way I see it is that for each of us there is a relatively small number of people with whom we feel a deep connection. Whether you want to explain this as due to being part of the same soul group in the spiritual realm, or to having similar energies, or to chemistry, the fact is that we dont feel connected to most people. Just because I dont feel connected with someone doesnt mean there is anything wrong with them. Just because you dont feel drawn to spend time with someone doesnt mean there is anything wrong with that person, and just because someone doesnt connect with you doesnt mean there is anything wrong with you. Its just the way things are, and it has nothing to do with there being anything wrong with anyone. So if I say to someone, I dont feel a strong connection between us, I am simply stating a fact. I am not making a judgment about the persons adequacy or worth. All of us meet perfectly wonderful people with whom we just dont feel a connection. The person might be very attractive, have similar interests to us, and even be on a similar growth path or spiritual path. Yet we just dont connect. The spark that ignites friendship or romance just doesnt exist. If we could all accept that someone not wanting to be with us has nothing to do with our worth, we would not get hurt when someone says no to a relationship. I dont pretend to understand all the factors that create connection between two people. All I know is that all of us have the experience of connection with another that occurs deeply and rapidly, as well as the experience of a lack of connection. Many people have had the experience of being fixed up with someone because a friend said, I just know you two will like each other. You are so similar, only to discover a complete lack of connection. Katie, a client of mine, recently said to me, Everyone said Rick is perfect for me. We look good together, we have similar interests and backgrounds, we are the same religion, we are equal educationally, and he is a really sweet guy. I kept thinking that if I just gave it time, I would feel the connection. But it never happened. I felt so badly breaking up with him because there is nothing wrong with him, but the connection just isnt there. Is it anyones fault that the chemistry or connection isnt there? Of course not! There is nothing wrong with either Katie or Rick. The connection just isnt there for Katie. She couldnt make it be there. She ended up saying to Rick, You are a really terrific guy. I wish I felt the connection with you that I want to have with a partner, but I dont. Its not your fault its just not there. Whether or not Rick felt hurt by this is really up to him. Katie cant take responsibility for how he feels. If Rick has the belief system that not everyone will feel connected with everyone, he will not feel hurt. If he has the belief system that if a woman doesnt connect with him, there is something wrong with him, he will feel hurt. His hurt will come from his belief system, not from the fact that Katie broke up with him. Ending a relationship gracefully means speaking our truth without blame or judgment and not taking responsibility for anothers feelings. Randi, another one of my clients, recently told me that she was able to tell the truth rather than give herself up to avoid hurting someone. A friend had introduced her to Barb, thinking that Randi and Barb had a lot in common and could be good friends. Randi got together with Barb and felt no connection. In fact, she felt the opposite. While Randi felt that Barb was a sweet person, she also felt Barbs energy pulling on her in various ways. While some people might not mind needy energy, or even find it endearing, Randi didnt like it at all. She was pleased with herself because she was able to tell Barb that she just didnt feel a connection with her. Randi was able to let go of taking responsibility for Barbs feelings if Barb felt hurt by this. Is there always a way of breaking up or saying no to a relationship without someone getting hurt? No. But by gently speaking your truth, you can gracefully end a relationship, and if you accept that anothers feelings come from his or her belief system, then you wont feel guilty if the other person feels hurt. Phobias: What are They?

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

By Ian Bracwegirdle What is a phobia?Forgive me if I seem to go around the house a bit but all will come clear to you as you follow along. For you, if you are the sufferer, it is a compelling fear. A real gut wrenching feeling “I have got to get away!” instinct. In the situation where the fear happens it can feel unbearable. For example A friend of mine, a teacher, was walking along Blackpool Promenade. It was a beautiful sunny day. To her left people were enjoying the beach, playing games, swimming in the sea and sunning themselves. Hundreds of other people were walking along the promenade coming and going as people do on their holidays. The parallel road was busy with slow moving traffic and the old Blackpool trams rattled by. A brilliant holiday day was being enjoyed by thousands. BUT! Lets call my friend Jane, not here real name, but she wishes to remain anonymous. Jane was walking with her two daughters aged 3 and 5 years, each holding a hand. They were relaxed and looking forward to playing on the beach and ice-cream and other treats. Even so in that crowd the girls were holding tight to mums hands as they experienced the sea of legs. Suddenly everything change! Jane let go of the girls hands, turned and fled in the opposite direction. Fear had struck right through Jane’s whole caring, motherly nature. What horror could have sparked this loving mother to behave in such a rash and seemingly uncaring manner? Lets just look a bit further down that crowded promenade. Coming towards Jane was a photographer with a camera around his neck. Like many other seaside photographers he had a live prop to stimulate his trade and get people to pose for pictures. Around his neck was draped a large python. Can you feel what spooked Jane? Yes. She had seen the python, done what I call “The 400 simultaneous horror movies” and fled, leaving two little girls to their fate. Her fear of snakes was so great as to override all her mothering, caring and loving nature. If you are reading this and don’t suffer from such fears you could well be thinking; “Silly woman why didn’t she just turn around and walk the other way?” Or you may be of the hard school and think; “Stupid woman why can’t she keep herself under control?” For a second place yourself in Jane’s place. What would cause you as a parent to override your basic protective nature towards your offspring? Think about it…… it would really have to be something very powerful. We instinctively protect our children but this mother abandons her two young daughters in the middle of a crowded holiday resort and runs away because of a snake. She leaves them facing her worse fear, an eight foot long python. If you have a phobia you will understand what is going on. If not, you could well be very puzzled and maybe even disturbed by this true story. What is happening? This is a step through of the event:-Jane sees snakepanic mode is set in motion her flight / fight mechanism is set in motionadrenaline flooded through her blood streamfear overrides all logical thoughtsTwo options are available run or fightshe is too frightened to fighther only option is to runshe legs it as fast as possible At this moment the only thing that matters is her survival she is scared of dying. Her only option is survival as she has stopped thinking logically. All this happens in a split second. In Jane’s mind there are no options, fear overrules all thoughts of protecting her two vulnerable daughters. Once Jane has calmed down away from the threat she is able to rationalise her fear. She will probably feel shame and guilty about her actions. Yet in her mind she would react the same in a similar situation. She knows that her fear is still there waiting to be triggered again. Why does Jane react this way? Hundreds of people around Jane that day walked past that same snake, some even had it draped around their necks and had a photograph taken. Why is Jane the only person who reacts this way. I am sure that some people would have had lesser reactions but most could cope with their minor fear of snakes. Only Jane appears to have had this overriding panic. Ian Bracegirdle is a teacher, course leader and therapist. Meaning and Marketing - The Hurricane

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

By Paul R Snell I step outside my back door and look at some large limbs lying on the ground. They are all dead. We’ve had the remnants of Hurricane Frances and Ivan come through here the past ten days. We’ve had lots of rain with manageable winds. Even so, the storms have done their work and alot more than I have the time to see or know about at the present moment. The hurricane - one of nature’s ways of culling the trees. I remember visiting the Florida Everglades in the early 1980’s and hearing from a Park Ranger who was our tour guide on a boat. He pointed out the most common trees along the water bank, a tangled mass - millions of them. “Left to their own devices, they can be their own worst enemy,” he said; “so right now we’re praying for a hurricane.” Meaning and Marketing - do you have or own a context of Meaning in which to do your work? Of course, you do. Why do you do your work and what are you after? Are you after “Success”? If so, what is “Success” and how do you define that? You probably already know the answers to all these questions because they are part of your Meaning. Please know this - whatever your Meaning IS, I honor it. No matter what it is or how it is, it’s yours and it comes right out of you. You probably worked hard for it and suffered for it. You and your personality and particular gifts are a match. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have it, you wouldn’t own it. Whatever your Meaning IS, if you are happy with it, hold on to it because IT IS probably irreplaceable, like you are irreplaceable. If it works for you and you like it, are satisfied with it, and it motivates you everyday, then - - hey! - nothing wrong with that and everything right with it. Congratulations! However, if you don’t know your Meaning, are not sure, or are dissatisfied with, restless and hungry with the Meaning you have and that is yours, then please read on. You might be surprised and you might have some fun, some real fun! Or, if you’re just curious and need a hurricane in your life to shake you up a bit, to loosen you up, so that you can grow and expand, and can continue to do what you are already doing so well, only better, then hang on! Because a hurricane is coming, a really big one, a really really BIG ONE. Batten down the hatches, panel your windows with double strength plywood. Bar your doors with steel and hope for the best because YOU ARE going to need it. Meaning has to do with something spiritual or psychic or intuitive. It can often be inexpressible, but you know it’s there. It’s your religion even if you have no religion. Whatever binds you and holds you together into one piece, and that drives you to be who YOU ARE - that is your religion. That is your Meaning. And as you market your product or program to the world, you say - “Better watch out because here I come! And I am powerful! I am dy-no-mite.” If you don’t say this, then you ought to. So Mr. & Mrs. Meaning, how much power do you have behind the Meaning that is You and Yours? A lot? A little bit? How much? Do you know? Of course you know! You have as much power as you WANT or are willing to grab. And you grab as much as you need to get the job done and no more because you have to save yourself for the next task, the next job. You have to pace yourself carefully and conserve your energy because you don’t live for one day, or one week, or one month only in your business. You have to think about the future in your business - the long range future - and plan for it. Okay, ladies and gentlemen, I am handing out helmets now. They are made of a special metal, an alloy of titanium and steel and are covered with 1/3″ layer of rubber and plastic. The helmets are painted and tatooed anyway you WANT them TO BE and they are beautifully waxed. Are you ready? The Helmets are your IMAGINATIONS. Do you have them on? You do have an Imagination, don’t you? If not, just pretend you do. That will work just as well. Are you having fun? Not sure? Why aren’t you sure? Suddenly you find yourself in Patricia Smith’s third grade classroom at Old Richmond School in Felix County, NC. It’s 1953. A pupil is gazing out the window toward Pilot Knob about 20 miles away and S/HE IS wondering if recess time will ever get here. So is the pepple on the window sill. But we need not be bored because we know what’s coming, don’t we? Being Overweight Doesn’t Really Hurt Your Chances to Attract Women

By Teddy Shabba When it comes to attracting women being overweight doesn’t really hurt you. However, rarely does being overweight help your chances to attract women except perhaps with women who have a tendency to be attracted to the “Teddy Bear” type. Ultimately if you are overweight your chances to attract women will depend on what kind of life you live. If you live a life of watching TV, going to work, and going to the bars and clubs; you will find it to be very difficult to find and attract a quality woman or even an average woman into your life. On the other hand, if you live an active life and do things that you find interesting and rewarding you will find it easier and easier to attract women into your life. Now, it is also important that you understand how to attract women no matter if you live an active or inactive life. If you live a life of watching TV and are overweight you should consider losing weight, getting a life, or both; because quite frankly you have nothing to offer a woman. It is important to realize that women in general are attracted more to men who can fulfill them emotionally and with their lifestyle. Looks only become important to a woman when a man has nothing else to offer her.
